An Anam Ean- the soul bird. A Celtic zoomorphic design of cranes, salmon and knotwork. The theme of four is found throughout the picture. The number four expresses the four Celtic divisions of the year, Samhain, Imbolg, Beltain, and Lughnasadh. The three pointed knotwork in the four corners shows the triple aspect of Divinity. The pair of birds found in the outer corners symbolize the souls passage from this world to the otherworld and back again. The center image depicts birds which symbolize the soul entwined with fish symbolizing wisdom. This design is inspired by The Book of Kells, and The Book of Durrow, ancient gospels made over 1000 years ago, that contain pages covered in intricate patterns of knotwork that are inspiration, meditation, and decoration.
